Last night for Family Home Evening, we carved pumpkins. Okay, The Chief and I carved pumpkins, and the boys got to stick silly faces on their pumpkins (thanks for the idea, Brooklyn!). We had a lot of fun. I can't really remember ever having carved pumpkins in my life, though I'm sure I have knowing my dad. He always liked to do fun things as a family. Anyway, Buddha got to pick each person's pumpkin, then he dictated to The Chief which face pieces went where on his own pumpkin. Bugga got help from me, then ate Cheerios the rest of the evening as he watched Mommy and Daddy carve their pumpkins. The Chief took a very traditional approach using a stencil (though his method of stencil application was rather innovative...staples!). I, on the other hand, decided to free-hand my pumpkin as is painfully evident. :) But I had a great time doing it, so that's all that matters I suppose.

Bugga was "driving" his pumpkin by holding onto the ears as if they were a steering wheel. :) Buddha was fascinated.
Silly and spooky...the perfect combination! :)
P.S. After California's latest disaster...we didn't hesitate to extinguish the tea lights immediately following the photo op. :)

We carved pumpkins for family night too. It seems like that is what almost everyone was doing. I like the silly face pumpkin idea. Kev and I always carve the kids for them. Where do you get the silly pieces?
Lisa, I got them at Sears Essentials here, which is equivalent to K-Mart there. They are awesome!
What a great idea on the silly faces for the kids! I might have to go with those next year. Although, I must say, Jonathan had fun scooping out the gooop! We're excited for trick-or-treating tomorrow. Jonathan is going to be Spiderman! Are you guys going trick-or-treating? Or just doing the trunk-or-treat?

Cool pumpkins! And yes, you carved pumpkins as a child. Messy. We graduated to markers and quit cutting them.
I love the fun faces! I have to say that sticking my hand in the gooey insides of a pumpkin is one of my least favorite Halloween pastimes. (My most least favorite is the mess I seem to make with getting the guts all over the place.) So genious idea with the potato-head-esque facial features. And I love your background to your blog. How did you do that?? I'm glad you guys found us- and now we've found you!!
Yes, we're going trick-or-treating tomorrow, Jacqui. You know me and pictures...I'll never pass up a photo op! :) Plus, I'd like to see Soren as Dracula again...only this time without all the makeup. It rubbed off so easily that I spent most of that night worrying about what his head/face might be touching. :)

Megan, I don't like the slimy feeling either, but I powered through it. :) Soren refused to even touch the stuff let alone stick his hand inside the pumpkin, so I guess it's a good thing we got those "faces" for him.
I love carving pumpkins! Maybe it's cause I love doing anything messy though. I'm still a kid in that area. I used to be an animal at mud football! (:

Liz, I can't believe when I watch the videos of your boys how much they remind me of Tyler and Travis at that age:) Soren is so Tyler in those videos..hehe. Without the sound I can here Tyler talking..Big Brother "stuff"
